Located within an easy driving distance of all major waterways in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Maryland which include the Lehigh River, Schuylkill River, Susquehanna River, Salmon River and Delaware River, our fishing guide school specializes in boat training and is designed to give each student a real appreciation for the guiding profession while preparing you for a new and rewarding career. This program draws on the decades of experience from our guiding staff and is designed to teach you all of the essential skills and procedures, giving you a sound foundation to build your fishing guide career.

Our fishing guide school program consist of extensive boat training, wade guiding, client interaction, logistics and more. You will be presented with a number of challenging guiding situations with a highly skilled guide present to help you learn as much as you can in the ultimate hands-on learning environment.

Guiding opportunities in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Ohio

Trout . Guiding anglers for trout in Pennsylvania and New York, with all of their world class trout fisheries, offers the experienced drift boat guide endless opportunities. The Lehigh River and the Delaware River are visited by thousands of fly fishing trout anglers each year. Many of these anglers search out qualified drift boat guides and Rivers Fly Fishing Guide School can help get you ready to tap into this market with its extensive drift boat training program.

Smallmouth. The Susquehanna River, Delaware River and Schuylkill River are well known among the angling community for their trophy smallmouth fishing and attract serious bass fisherman from all over the North East. These large rivers, flowing through New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland are ideally fished from boats and are included as part of the training offered by Rivers Fishing guide school.

Salmon and Steelhead. From drift boat fishing on New York’s famed Salmon River to wade fishing Pennsylvania and Ohio’s Steelhead Alley, Rivers Fly Fishing Guide School instructors are big game specialists. This season rounds out the fishing guides’ year with opportunities for work well into the winter months. Anglers in pursuit of salmon and steelhead and generally willing to hire a guide to increase their opportunities for success.

Guiding in Alaska, Montana and other exciting Fly Fishing Destinations

As they say “the Skies the limited”.  Guiding has taken our instructors to many world famous destinations including, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, New Mexico, Florida and Chile. A fly fishing guides value is often determined by their experience and Rivers Fly Fishing Guide School is the ideal way to build experience. Our long standing guide service is linked to many other guiding operations and destinations and offers referrals to qualified students.

Internships

Each spring Rivers offers two internships to qualified students. These interns receive accommodations and meals in  lieu of wages and are placed into the Rivers Outdoor Adventures guide program. Here they work hand-in-hand with our staff learning the details of guiding, all the while gaining documented fishing and boating experience. Application for Pennsylvania and New York Guide licensing is also made available to qualified intern guides. This program is highly prized and competitive. Only the most serious prospects are chosen.
